Warning: Be Thankful At Your Own Risk

We should always give thanks, not only on Thanksgiving, right? However, today is a great reminder of how important it is to thank the people in your life who have made you…well, you.

I’m sure you’ve heard that you are the product of the five people who you spend the most time with. If you think about those five people, you will either realize how important they are in your life, or you’ll get a wake-up call that you probably shouldn’t be spending so much time with them. Either way, we can be thankful for bringing it to light.

I am truly thankful to all of my family and friends who have supported me since day one of moving out here to Costa Rica 14 months ago. Some people were really nervous for me to leave (they thought it was a dangerous place), some were really excited for the adventure that was ahead for me, and others have said that I inspired them to make big changes in their lives. I know that I am loved, and that I have a support system that will always be there. Without that support system, I couldn’t be here today, and I am so thankful for them.

How about you? Who and what are you thankful for? Be sure to take a risk and reach out to them today, even if you think it’s cliche or haven’t spoken to them in a long time. Holding grudges keeps us stagnant, and forgiveness allows us the space to move forward. People absolutely love it when you show your appreciation for them. Don’t rob them of that just because it’s Thanksgiving, or any other day for that matter. Choose selflessness and be vulnerable. It’s amazing what you find when you just put it all out there. It always works out in the end, one way or another.

Lastly, thank you for reading, sharing and commenting on this blog. Without that interaction I sometimes wonder if I’m ever making a difference in your life. I appreciate you, really. Every blog post you read is a declaration to yourself that you care about your life, and that you want to live the best way you can, on purpose. That’s big. Thank you for being you.

If you want to share what you’re thankful for in the comments below, please do. Even if those people will never see it, at least you put it out there, and that’s what counts.

Great post. I am thankful for so many things this year – family, friends, so many fun and crazy experiences…way too many to list here. :) You and your adventures to CR have been very inspiring and I’m thankful that it’s turned out to be a great journey for you and that we’re friends. ~ B

Awesome, thank you Irin! Sometimes we go through our days so fast because we have school, work, homework, family, etc. and forget to pay attention to the good things in our life. I’ve realized that it’s not about me being thankful for them, but that they know how much they are appreciated. Thank you for reading and commenting!

This was such an inspiring post. I am so grateful and appreciative of the people in my life! I found this really interesting because I had never heard, “you are a product of the five people you spend the most time with.” When I read that I instantly thought about whom I spend the most with and that statement clicked. I thought wow that’s so true. This article was insightful and helped me to remember that loved ones are literally everything. All we have are family and friends.

So true Alex, and remember who you are to those people as well. They need you just as much as you need them :-)
