Stop Being a Slave to Your Circumstances

“Choice, not circumstances, determines your success.” -Author Unknown

Consider there are multiple realities, alternate universes if you will. In addition to that, consider that we can drift in and out of each one from moment to moment depending on the choices that we make. We may stay in one for a while, and then switch over to another depending on what we choose, given our circumstance at the time. None of these realities are good or bad, right or wrong or anything in between. They’re just different paths that lead to different lives.

My father was the only one of five children in a very poor family who made it out of his small town in Oregon, the only one who went to college, and the only one to have any type of career success. He grew up in the same circumstances as his siblings, and with the same opportunities. Why was he different? He made different choices.

We all know stories like this. Some siblings end up in jail while the others have incredible success. Some go to college while others don’t. Some make a lot of money while others live paycheck to paycheck. Again, none of these are good or bad, right or wrong, or anything in between. They’re just different paths that lead to different lives.

Don’t be a victim to your circumstances anymore, because the reality is you’re not. You’re just on a certain path that leads to a certain place, and can change that path in any given moment depending on the choices that you make. Remember, it is never too late to change your path, never.

I love your blog Jeff! Kevin shared it with me and I actually just shared “Stop being a slave to your circumstances” with my class this week when we discussed choice.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with everyone! I hope Costa Rica is treating you well.
